The Fame
The Lord possessed me from the start,
On the first of His acts of old;
Ages ago taken to heart,
As the earth began to unfold.
There were no depths that had been brought,
No springs abounding with water,
Before the parents had begot,
To bear a son or daughter.
Before mountains had taken shape,
He was brought forth before the hills;
Before the fields and the seascape,
Into the deep that water fills.
Before making the dust and fields,
Before earth He prepared Heaven;
The trees had draped over as shields,
While ripened fruit was given.
He had made the skies up above,
Established fountains of the deep;
Allowed the spreading of His love,
As the darkness allows us to sleep.
He set a limit to the sea,
That the waters would not transgress;
Given to the waters a decree,
The foundation that they possess.
I was beside Him, as His delight,
Rejoicing before Him always;
Inhabited world in His sight,
Sons and daughters singing Him praise.
