Empty Kingdom
James Groseclose 1983 (United States)
I sit alone in my castle
Chills run through the empty halls
Just alone in my castle
Echoes of silence through the walls
I sit alone in my castle
My kingdom would rise and I watched it fall
Just me in my castle
There was once, I had it all
I rose as a king after falling through hell
Fought my way back up as the story tells
Went from nobody to somebody like a spell
At the top is where it stopped and again I fell
Having everything and nobody to enjoy it with
Broken apart broken heart that i was left with
Thought being a king would be the greatest gift
Went for it all and there is where I missed
Now I sit in my golden tower
Lost soul that crashed with the power
Death started within the hour
Tried to run but was lost in power
Until I trapped myself up in my tower
I sit alone in my castle
Chills run through the empty halls
Just me in my castle
Echoes of silence bouncing off the walls
I sit alone in my castle
I raised my kingdom just to watch it fall
As the story goes
I once had it all
Locked in my castle
But only in my mind
Threw away the key
Lost my mind
Alone I sit in my chair
When they find my crown
I won’t be there
Your not alone in my castle
Here with memories
They haunt my castle
Just like me
Your not alone in my castle
I haunt these empty halls
Those are my echoes
You hear through the walls
About this poem
This poem tells the tale of having it all and falling by way of your own hands, being lost in your own mind, and the torture of one's self until the end.
