An Angel's Disbelief
James Groseclose 1983 (United States)
Today, I seen an angel
No wings, no halo
Just an angel
But someone I know
Today was a glimpse
Into the heavens open gate
I listened when he talked
So much was needed to say
Questions were so many
I couldn't ask fast enough
Many weren't to be answered
Many were to tough
The answers received
Were the answers of need
None were of want
None were of greed
Today I seen an angel
Though I didn't cry
I knew the angel before me
I knew the place and time
Many claim the sight
But none were meant to see
The angel I knew for years
Before he came to be
Advice was given soundly
From the same that was before
This time I listened intently
To words I'd heard before
They had made sense then
But fell to the back of my mind
These words spoken were so real
And had to do with time
Today I seen an angel
He spoke to me with tears
A mirrored voice was the sound
Eyes looking back at me for years
But as he said goodbye
As he made this time his last
He said he couldn't return
Only to remember his past
As he walked away
As he faded in the light
I gave one last question
I couldn't hold or fight
An answer was given
Not what I thought it would be
From the angel as he left
His words were meant for me
As I looked on in disbelief
I recognized his face
It left me unable to breathe
As I stood in place
I seen an angel today
At first I didn't believe
The angel that I had seen
Was me.
