My little brother
I remember the day
He was born.
It was in the morn
That he came on a sojourn
On a rainy day in June.
I remember the day
He forever closed his little eyes.
It was twilight,
The stars twinkled in silence,
A candle was burning.
Thus, his visit was too brief,
It lasted only for a few hours.
He tasted no breast milk,
His short life was confined to an incubator.
The sweetness of tender love he missed.
There-in the hospital church-yard
He was laid to eternal rest.
Born into a different religion
That was his final destination,
That was my father’s sole decision.
Life is an unplanned game,
Every soul has a pre-destined ground.
From the shores of my little world
I am reflecting on the purposes of life,
Fifty seasons are now far behind.

About this poem
I had a younger brother born on 08/06/1973 who returned to his heavenly abode on the same day. Being born into a different religion, my father was magnanimous to hand over the body to the church authorities connected to the hospital. Dr Mary D Small was the doctor of my mother. Somewhere under the shades of that graveyard, he must be sleeping forever.
