Pesticidal Lament

Rei 2005 (Cape Town)

In this world, a garden tainted, shadows intertwine, Where dreams decay, and sorrows entwine.
I move through the gloom, a spectre to confide, A harbinger of doom, like pesticide

Petals wither, in a monochrome embrace, In the twisted ballad, where despair takes its place.
I tread with dread, on the path of genocide, A relentless force, like pesticide.

Through twisted vines, my footsteps echo, A symphony of despair, in a moonlit meadow.
A silent waltz in the shadows that coincide, A haunting refrain, like pesticide.

Yet, in my wake, echoes of anguish persist, For every life extinguished, a mournful twist.
In this desolate landscape, where darkness will reside, I am the reaper, the relentless pesticide.

Growth devours hope, a relentless hand,
A cruel touch upon this forsaken land.
In the garden of despair, where nightmares preside, I move with malevolence, like pesticide.

Let the blooms wilt, let the colors bleed,
In this wretched realm, where sorrows takes the lead.
In the grand design, where darkness will abide, I am the embodiment, the relentless pesticide.

About this poem

In a world obscured by despair, "Pesticidal Lament" delves into the profound theme of the human struggle against adversity. The Garden, once vibrant, now serves as a metaphor for life's trails and tribulations. The narrator, moving through the shadows like a pesticide, reflects the dual nature of their role -- both destroyer and protector. The poem explores the delicate balance between growth and decay, echoing the inevitability of suffering in the pursuit of resilience. Admidst the haunting imagery, it contemplates the consequences of choices made in the pursuit of maintaining equilibrium, posing questions about the cost of preservation I'm a world veiled by darkness.
