The Passion Of The Poet (Literary Feat)

Robert Joseph Mattingly 1957 (Brookline, Massachusetts)

Path, a Poet's feat takes
Which is at first bare, lead
On loose sheets of paper
Small, wide and college ruled
Index cards, legal pads.
Poet's feat wearing, pen
First step kind of inky
In the write direction
Heading into notebooks,
That pile against the wall
Into a Poet's trail
Which was made by the pen,
Years writing along it
For the others to take,
Typewriter the bike ride.
PC a vehicle
Sugarcoating the Feat,
While the Passion weakens.
Submissions and awards,
Copies and being framed.
As ideas go by,
Things will run out and break.
A Poet's Feat backtracks,
Typewriter the old ride
To pen that lead on loose
Sheets with creative ways
Back of college papers,
Already a staple
Both sides of envelopes.
