Battling Epilepsy

Kendall McGinley 2009 (Poughkeepsie New York)

In the stillness of the night, a silent storm brews within
Electric currents surge and spark, a battle that's about to begin
The body trembles, the mind reels, as seizures take control
A relentless force, a vicious enemy, that consumes the soul

The world around fades to black, as the body convulses in pain
A prisoner to the chaos that reigns, a never-ending strain
The fear and uncertainty, a constant companion near
The struggle with epilepsy, a burden that's always here

The pills and treatments, the endless tests and trials
Trying to find relief, a sliver of hope amidst the trials
But through it all, a glimmer of strength and resilience shines
Courage in the face of adversity, a warrior who never resigns

Through the seizures and the setbacks, the battles won and lost
The spirit remains unbroken, no matter the ultimate cost
For every day is a triumph, a victory over the strife
A warrior fighting bravely, in the war against epilepsy's plight

So to all who struggle with this relentless opponent
Know that you are not alone, there's strength in the unknown
May hope be your guiding light, and love your steadfast guide
To face each day with courage, and in your heart abide.
