Promises Made

Living to accept and make,
Promises made.
With a doing to delay,
When to expect them.
To come done delivered.

This for some,
Has become a part of life.
To say to anyone awaiting,
A remembering not to forget.
What had been promised to them,
They seldom get!

Although it is always with good intentions,
To hear it claimed by another...
Any promise to have made,
One day will be received to come done.
And if that doing,
Takes years to do?
There nothing like a promise,
To believe has come true!

'Remember that bicycle I promised you?
Well...
Go to the window and look outside.
I may be a little late.
But that promise I made,
Has finally arrived!'

'Uh...
Well,
All I can say is thank you.
And...
I am also quite surprised.
However...
That motorcycle you see.
Next to that sports car?'

'Yes.
Both are very nice!'

'I waited and waited,
For that promise you made.
And decided as I grew up to age,
To get what I wanted.
Even though that tricycle,
Wrapped up in that big blue ribbon?
I'll give it away to my neighbors' kids.
But...
I will never forget,
What you promised to me.
And actually did.'

'Where has time gone?
Has it been that long?'

'Well...
Not really.
However,
When you promised me a bike?
How old did you think I was then?
Still going to elementary school?'

'Forgive me.
You kids grow up so fast.'

'I know.
And...
It's hard to believe,
That was over thirty years ago!'

'Lies!
How do you manage,
To stay looking so young?'

'I listen to promises made to me.
Then immediately I know,
Not to await and waste my time...
For those good intentions mentioned.
Especially coming out of the mouths,
Of relatives who only appear to visit...
When someone in the family dies!'

'Stop exaggerating.
I just saw you...'

'When?'

'When you graduated from school.
Holding the hands of your parents!'

'Oh yeah.
I forgot!
That wasn't 30 years ago.
That was 35 years ago.
And guess what?'

'What?'

'You haven't aged at all.
Mentally!'

'Thank...
Huh?'

'Some do, some don't.
Some can't and won't!'
