The Fly

Robert Rowe 1967 (Agana, Guam)

Hungry! Hungry!  Eggs need to hatch
Left and right!  What do my eyes catch?
On the ground, smelly and stinky
Lumps, chunks and color so inky.

Hurry! Hurry! What's that dark patch?
Hungry! Hungry! Eggs need to hatch
Must get there before the others
Lay my eggs like all good mothers

For here in this summer season
A drive much stronger than reason
Hungry! Hungry! Eggs need to hatch
Land there! Land there!  Eyeballs to scratch

Eggs I’ll lay in fecal matter
Steamy like fresh cookie batter
To lay! To lay!  In one large batch
Hungry! Hungry! Eggs need to hatch.
