Reset

By God’s grace, we’ve come through this alive,
Wounded and grieved, but seemingly whole,
The forces of darkness and destruction
Have nevertheless taken their toll:
Somehow, we’ve emerged on the other side,
Now is the right moment to turn the tide…

The Lord will sort out the wicked and cruel:
Their day of reckoning is at hand,
Retribution belongs to Him: He will repay;
Justice will be restored to our land:
Our task is to heal ourselves and our folk,
To repair and rebuild that which evil broke…

Laughter, loud and strong and frequent,
Will reveal and break the devil’s spell,
Will put things back into right perspective
And send these demons back to hell.
Not only is it the best medicine and cure,
But a protective shield that will endure…

Beauty, vibrant and wondrous and divine,
Will reflect the Creator’s craft and care,
And touch that place He built into our hearts,
The intuition that tells us He is there:
He is present in beautiful music, a setting sun,
Mirrored in His creatures, in a job well-done…

Work, honest and diligent and good,
Will mend our broken souls and dreams,
While fixing our roads and bridges,
Turning isolated people into inspired teams
Of neighbors, removing ugliness and blights,
All the while reclaiming solidarity and rights…

Love, glorious and indestructible and holy,
Will reconnect God’s children in trust,
While taking down barriers of hate and deceit
Erected by our “leaders” in their power-lust:
Truth will topple their tower of lies,
Will dislodge the scales from our eyes.

Joy, magnificent, magnanimous and heaven-sent
Will restore in us that sure inner sight,
That innocent wonder and wisdom,
Freeing us to enjoy life’s countless delights:
To once again savor what we should,
To recall that God is great and life is good!

About this poem

I truly believe that our country could use a fresh start. This is my attempt to, hopefully, point us in the right direction.
