River of Souls

Jimmy Montemayor 1974 (Kenosha)

Free verse
Look at the border,
See those that cross.
How many souls make it?
How many are lost?

People swim across,
To better their lives,
Even if that means
Leaving behind their wives.
Touch the water
Feel how cold.
Jump into the river of souls.
Come to the city of sand,
For this is the Rio Grande.
