Once again

I know the scene set before me,
I know it rather well.
I've met all of the characters,
I've memorized the tale.
I remember the way it felt,
To be held with such admiration,
Only to fall at such a depth.
A pure abomination.

The curtains rise,
The music swells.
My heart, it skips a beat.
I watch my life unfold before me.
I relive my own defeat.

Left feeling,
Empty and hollow.
The lights,
They start to fade.
The show is over.
This is it.
At the end of the day,
Just me.
