Belonging
On my way to work I reflect
on that sinking feeling
caused by rebuttal.
Harsh words, angry emotions
fuelled by personal perspective.
A bias perhaps – or a prejudice?
This residue remains
like stale ground dregs, dark and impervious.
Reflecting on my life’s purpose,
I’ve come to understand
the art of friendship.
Careless, callous temper
fuelled by selfishness and ego
play no part in Shakespeare’s Seven Stages
of Man’s theatrical journey.
Acts now done are now done,
leaving behind their sad corollary.
I’ll use the anaphora technique
to quell this errancy
and lighten ethos.
This pathos and poignancy
fuelled by aftermath and regret,
will leave, and leave me to pay the piper.
His tune I’ll value more –
his tune I’ll emulate –
his tune I’ll ameliorate.
About this poem
I made a mistake and regretted the harsh words I had said to my friend.
