DROWNING IN CONTRADICTION

My spirit is nothing short of a contradiction,

I say spirit because the suit is merely a constriction,

So tell me why I look for joy in sad songs,

Why do I have to drown myself to breathe?

I hate rules but never once break them,

I hate the shackles of structures but I am lost without them,

I can fix a million broken hearts but never mine,

Tell me why my calm demeanor is infiltrated by the darkest thoughts.

I am a wild soul always forced into a myriad of boxes,

A vintage spirit finds itself in a modern world of boxes,

A lady should not do this or say that like the soul has a gender,

I can't stand up for myself so they fit the suit in a box but my spirit runs wild.

So I end up a misfit that's also a perfect fit for each lock,

A seamless voice that never got a beat to rock,

A romantic that never took a chance at love,

Just a complicated puzzle I keep trying to solve.
