405 battlefront
Don Porter 1972 (Freeport, Pa)
Each vehicle stationed in the LA traffic, a soldier on the battlefield holding the front line without giving
an inch. The anger, confusion, uncomfortable fighting positions and the miserable heat of a Friday @
Four o’clock skirmish sets in and the only movement you see are the hands of the clock ticking away.
While vigilantly glassing the forefront for movement one cant help but wonder if they will see their
families again. Will their children recognize them? The bravery shown in this twice daily conflict is
forever unmentioned and the memories of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice- forgotten.
War is hell
About this poem
While stationed at Camp Pendleton CA I sat in traffic quite a bit which in my opinion was sometimes worse than my time overseas
