Iris Discovery

Brian Z. Jackson 2006 (NJ)

I tread lightly on the squishy ground, prudent to the world
As my companion bounds ahead, propelled in the air by the trampoline
The rainbow grass sprawls across my eyes, a beguiling feeling filling me
As they roll around enveloped by blades that stick and adorn their figure
The breeze in the air is soft as fur, the feeling becoming cloying numbing my body
As they dance, moving with the flow of the wind, their colorful figure sparkling

And then, we reach the tree,
The tree.
It's bark shimmering, glittering, I can't hold back my gasp.
It is stunning; looking at it mutes the rest of this world
The way the rays of the sun bounce off of it casting rainbow hues on my face
The way its leaves rustle when the soft wind caresses the branch
The way the rainbow grass seamlessly morphs into the roots of the tree.
My companion stands next to me as I gaze upon the tree
At last, we feel as one, I reach out and touch it, he fades away
My desires are finally a part of me, my worries disappear
