Gambling addiction.
Neck to neck, nose to nose, whips are lashing, heels digging,
Veins are popping, adrenaline rushes.
"Come on girl, come on, come on girl you can do it" !!!
The finish line in sight, money flashes before my eyes,
jigging on my chair, willing my horse to win.
Bulging eyes, terse strained face, all concentration on the race,
hands shaking invisible reins, as though I'm in the riders place.
No, No, No, second place, I feel the blood drain from my face,
I frantically search my pockets for money to put on the next race.
This time my horse will win, this time money will come rolling in,
I can pay off all my debts, I can keep the roof over my head.
My horse comes last, I scream out loud,
"You worthless piece of sh*t"
Completely broke, devoid of hope, I head to the pub across the road,
"Lend me some money, quick !!!
I've had a tip, It's a real cert'
I'll pay you back when my horse comes in".
No, No, No, all heads do shake, you've still not paid me back,
anger flairs, narrowed eyes, my mouth hurls abuse with a venomous bite.
It ends up in a fight.
Home I go, ranting and raving, my wife wide eyed in fright,
"Give me some money" I scream at her, She didn't want to fight.
She scrambled around like a frightened mouse, searching high and low.
Not quick enough, she incurs my wrath, she cups her throbbing face.
I take her last tenner and slam the door.
Upon my return She's not there anymore.
Her clothes all gone, the house is silent, a scribbled note is all she wrote,
She's fled the nest, I'm alone and broke.
