In a Tree Today
Sept. 16, 2012
We carved our initials in a tree today.
We talked a lot about God today.
I finally made you honest today
About what was truly on your mind.
I would have much preferred it sooner;
The moment you felt this way.
But then I would have stayed away
Instead of giving my heart and hope
To the future not to be
After you were free.
Instead I gave you what you need,
And you took it, indeed.
I stuck by you as friend, as lover,
Only for my heart to discover
You thought it is getting too serious.
Almost a year you've known my soul
More than you thought you knew before.
I took my time as you wanted to.
In that time we grew and grew.
I knew what I was aiming for,
All through everything and wanting more.
Then I asked and you felt the same.
Remember when you were asking, “Do you think
You will ever get bored of me?”
I responded, “How can you ask that baby?”
Then you asked, “Why do you love me?”
I have given so many reasons…
Ultimately, because you love me.
I have loved you unconditionally.
I think I tried too hard to keep you with me.
And, in this time when I needed you back,
After this three month slack,
You tell me you do not know which way you want to go.
And, suddenly, it's too serious.
I never saw it as anything less.
Life is serious. I am ready to be serious, and I thought you were too. Damnit, I thought I could be all that you wanted because I have offered everything I could give. And, I've wanted to be everything to you that others previous were far from able to be. And, the day that you find someone better, I will truly be happy for you.
