Joseph C Gomez

Born and raised in the small town of Silver City, NM. Joseph is the youngest of 4 children and the only son, born to Joseph G Placencio sr. and Ramona M Grinie. Joseph was raised by his step-father, Enrique P Gomez, whom married Joseph's mother when he was the age of two. He graduated in 1996 from Silver High School and enlisted directly into the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 10 yrs 5 months and 29 day. During his time in the service he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and also served two combat tours in Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Joseph then returned to his home town and began attending Western New Mexico University, where he began studying for his Bachelor's degree in chemical dependency counseling. Joseph chose this field in order to help his fellow veterans that have also returned from the battlefield, bringing with them the struggles and battles that war does to the human soul. Upon leaving the service, Joseph himself went down a long, lonely dark road, turning to drugs and alcohol to silence the screams of the inner demons he had to face. However, one day Joseph woke up and realized that life is to precious to live the way he had been living, and he also realized that he was better than what he had become. Joseph also realized that he was not doing right by his fallen comrades, his fellow Marines that paid the ultimate sacrifice, so he decided that day to live everyday in remembrance of his fallen friends, to live a life that they would be proud of. Joseph believes that if he could bring himself out of that rut, then he will be there to help his fellow service members do the same. God bless everyone and Semper Fidelis
