that empty chair
Where were you when I was falling in love?
I drunk the spirit, and got high
I danced your music; thinking it was true love!
Till it's all fading, and finally die;
What was your name? You, in my dream;
I drunk the spirit, and felt you till the end
I sung your song, thinking it was perfect rhythm;
Till it's all fading my lover and my friend;
Why gone in time I needed you the most?
I drunk the spirit, and held the memory back
I sat still, thinking what I lost
Till it's all fading, the time from that broken clock
About this poem
The poem is about the longing of having a romantic relation with a friend after quite sometime of being together. Though, this friend is too special to the point fear holding him (the author) back to open up his feelings. And so it goes - the relation remains friend, while both having their own fantasies of loving their ideal one.
