Analysis of Little Snow Angels
Sitting inside a dim-lit lodge that radiates the warmth of sunshine that these winter months are not accustomed to,
A sight of true beauty can be found just outside the forty-foot windows.
It is not the skier that has perfectly carved down the freshly powdered mountain.
It is not the snowboarder that landed a 360 turn.
It is not the couple holding hands on the ski lift as they take in the view of the summit.
It is not the friends laughing at their inexperienced friend who just ate snow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Instead, it is a sight of beauty that we don’t see in our world anymore.
A sight that could spark joy in one's soul and jealousy in another’s.
A sight that makes you reflect on your past and simultaneously think about your future.
Oh to be nineteen in a ski lodge, looking out the window admiring a sight you thought you only see in the movies.
A father and child making little snow angels.
And suddenly you are no longer nineteen, you are five wondering if he will show up this time.
Looking out the window, you think of what you hope your spouse will be.
The kind of soul that spends their time playing with your child in the snow.
Giving them everything that a child could ever want.
A father that loves them.
A father that loves spending time with them.
A father that isn’t afraid to get on their hands and knees in the cold just to put a smile on your face.
A father that tosses you in the snow every time you ask him to.
A father who helps you make little snow angels.
To be nineteen,
In a ski lodge,
Hoping that one day,
You marry a man that will make little snow angels.

About this poem
I was inspired to write this poem when I was sitting in a Ski lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon. I saw a sweet sight of father and child playing in the snow.
