A Pitiable Sight
Fidelis Peter Olowu 1982 (Agbarho Kingdom)
Not everything in Winter is cold
Upon thine heart let this be enscrolled
Thou hast from long time of old
Prayed for greatness to unfold
To spice up thine story untold
But now that thou hast found gold
Thine foolishness is now bold
Dreams and passion have grown cold
Thine taste for justice; weak and old
To filthiness, your sanity thou hast sold
Good legacies thou cannot uphold
Nor bring honour to thine household
A pitiable sight, truth be told
Thou hast become to behold.
About this poem
Many a times we pray for opportunities to come our way for us to do certain great things in life but ironically when these opportunities finally surround us with fame and fortune we turn into something entirely different from who we really were before our prayers got answered. We get distracted, pompous, lustful, hateful, forgetful etc. The only time we return to our senses, the only time we remember what we were once passionate about is when the opportunity has slipped off our feverish hands and we are now being referred to as, "One time this, one time that but currently nothing. " Indeed, not everything in winter is cold and for real not everyone maintains their passion and dreams in every circumstance in life.
