Exchange
I miss yesterdays
I would trade a brand-new tomorrow
For an old used yesterday
Allow me to explain
The yesterdays of my life I know
I feel comfortable with
I know the pain, joy and the sorrow
It’s all familiar to me
And requires no effort of emotion
I already have the scars
I know how to play the game
The rules are clear
There is nothing to fear
But it’s the tomorrows
They say is a gift
Sometimes I wonder
If it’s a veil I want to lift
Somedays it can be a prize
Other times moments filled with lies
In either case a surprise
Some look forward
To the excitement of fear
It’s not something I relish to be near
This is why I want my yesterday
It’s a comfortable blanket in which to say
Good night my familiar light
Eric (and sometimes not)
