Melancholy
Melancholy
Melancholy pours showers across my joy
And the smiles of summer
Once spreading butterflies of
Hopes and dreams
Now casts shadows upon me
Diurnal rhythms of daily living
Become immobilized
Chess pieces on a game board
Still as statues
Plans for productivity
Get lost amid the rubble
Of unfulfilled wishes
And defeated desires.
Melancholy is a tormenting ghost
Haunting my unhappy days
My motivation is
A collection of fumes
Unable to fuel
The incessant demands
Of needs to sustain life
I drown in petty sorrow
Inconspicuously
To eyes and ears
That neither seem
To notice or care
They just walk away.
The climate of discontentment
Comes cascading downward
Unrelenting it robs me
My perspective
On even the most trivial
Becomes saturated
Under the storm
Dark clouds dampen
Every attempt at joy
How I yearn to escape
For the sun to shine on me
And a gentle breeze
To revive my skin and soul.

About this poem
Melancholy is almost synonymous with depression. This is from my experience.
