My Path

A million different paths before me I see,
but not one can show me who I'm meant to be.
I wish I could just chose a path without this daze,
Can somebody show me the way out of this maze?

I want no path where I wish I could turn back.
I want no path where my grounds crack.
A path that defines me is what I want,
where I can be myself and up front.

I know a little of what I want but not where it is,
Don't you understand? I'm too young to look for this.
I am in desperate need of the key,
Thy key to the door of where I'm meant to be.

About this poem

This poem expresses the feeling of an Indian teenager who struggles to find the right carrier path after high school.. She compares her life to a maze as she is confused and has no idea where she stands in life. Typically in India, most students are pressured to choose the path their parents decide, what they think is right, for them. They are not given any guidance or information about any other carrier paths, leading them to take the path everyone else is taking. The young teenager in my poem wants to do something different but doesn't know where to start and needs a little more time to decide.
