What To Expect
The endless black emptiness,
Will be thrust into your face.
Professions of goodness will abound,
A mirage of being in the right place.
There will be those outstretched arms,
That are not connected to a soul.
And all of the confused expressions,
Will make you feel less than whole.
You must fight to rise above,
That, which is holding you down.
Search for little pockets of hope and strength,
Even if there are none to be found.
Listen for the sounds of inspiration,
In the vacuum of the quiet.
Watch for shimmering possibilities,
In the pitch black of the night.
Blinding blizzard of experiences,
Are weapons for the priorities at hand.
And clinging to the corner of a prayer,
Provides strength to make your stand.
About this poem
This was written in the heat of COVID. I had been furloughed from my job and was glad. However, I felt like others were probably not so glad and was sure that many would be entering into depression. With the extended experience of depression and anxiety behind me, I felt that my experience might be able to help others. This poem is one of several that talk about insights into what to expect and what could be done to fend off or recover from exposure to the nasty world of depression. more »
