Wake and Rage
She came to me softly in a dream
clothed in light and beauty
She spoke in quiet wonderment
and called me to my duty,
Come forth from darkness; rule the day
Why do you hide your head
It’s time to wake, throw off despair
and refute the things they’ve said.
You do not speak truth by repeating lies
that say you have no worth.
It’s time to trust in who you are.
Rise up and walk the earth.
It’s time to rage at those who say
you have no earthly power.
Your time has come to speak your truth.
This is your waking hour.
About this poem
This began as a 5 minute freeform writing in response to a prompt. Since then, after some edits, I think of it as overcoming brainwashing that keeps us compliant rather than thinking for ourselves.
