The ruby red bird.

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

The ruby-red bird.

I looked and saw a ruby-red bird with a broken wing on the ground, but she would not sing. So I took her home and put a sling on her wing. A few days later, she was playing on her swing and singing. Then I looked down at my ring, which had a little red bird on it. I let her go, and it hurts to see her fly away into the sky. The next day, she was sitting on my window pane in the rain. I guess she came by to say hi. She stood there every morning, and I guess she didn't have the heart to tell me goodbye. She just wanted her cookie and it made me want to cry.

About this poem

Some of this poem is true I do have a cardinal that comes by everyday. He wants a cookie. Don't ask me why.
