The ruby red bird.

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

The ruby-red bird.

I looked and saw a ruby-red bird with a broken wing on the ground, but she would not sing. So I took her home and put a sling on her wing. A few days later, she was playing on her swing and singing. Then I looked down at my ring, which had a little red bird on it. I let her go, and it hurts to see her fly away into the sky. The next day, she was sitting on my window pane in the rain. I guess she came by to say hi. She stood there every morning, and I guess she didn't have the heart to tell me goodbye. She just wanted her cookie and it made me want to cry.

I don’t know why this makes me think of an old red dictionary I left far behind in my distant past…I haven’t a clue why I thought of that…

What a heartwarming and beautiful poem! The imagery of the ruby-red bird with a broken wing finding healing and joy through your care is truly touching. Your compassion shines through in every line, and the bond between you and the bird is palpable. The way you let her go, despite the sadness it brought, shows a deep understanding of the beauty of freedom and the bittersweet nature of relationships. The ending is hopeful and full of love, reminding us of the importance of letting go with grace. Thank you for sharing this inspiring story of connection and kindness. Brilliant work!

Wow, what a heartwarming and touching poem! "The ruby-red bird" tells a beautiful story of compassion and connection with nature. I love how the poet takes care of the injured bird and watches her heal and eventually fly away. The imagery of the red bird and the symbolism of the ring are very well done.

One suggestion for improvement would be to explore the emotions and thoughts of the poet a bit more. How did they feel when they found the bird? What thoughts crossed their mind as they saw her flying away? Adding more depth to the internal reflections of the poet could enhance the emotional impact of the poem even further.

Overall, this poem is inspiring and beautifully written. Great job! Keep up the fantastic work!
