A Candle in the Wind
Nothing gold stays too long.
Nature’s first green is gold.
She then transforms her form
as leaves subside to leaf.
When dawn gives way to day
a single leaf can flower
in this early morning hour,
a green and golden bower.
Your soft-scented candle,
drenched with fragrant whispers
caresses gentle hues
and hides my grief from view.
Dusk tarnishes all gold,
and leaves fall carelessly.
A candle in the wind –
you blew a while for me.
About this poem
In memory of my wonderful husband who, like a candle, blew a while for me, his fragrance loving and protecting me. I still feel his presence as I can still smell the fragrance of the candle.
